Infections at work: the latest report from Inail

In Lombardy, as of October 31, there are 22,119 reports of Covid work accidents, which is equivalent to 33.1% of the Italian total (66,781): among these, 137 are those that have had a fatal outcome, which is equivalent to 41 , 3% of the national total. In the province of Brescia there are 2,962 infections in the workplace, only behind Milan (7,557) and ahead of Bergamo (2,542), Cremona (1,459), Monza and Brianza (1,434) and Varese (1,365). Compared to the detection date of September 30, infections at work increased by 3,062 cases, of which 2,936 occurred in October.
Covid and work: the sectors most affected
In percentage terms, Brescia infections at work represent 13.4% of all Lombard infections (34.2% in Milan) and 4.4% nationally, the third most affected province in Italy. Of all Lombard cases at work, 77.4% are in the healthcare and social care sector, 6.3% in manufacturing activities, 3.7% in business and rental services, 2 % in accommodation and restaurant services activities, 1, 6% Public administration.
Approximately a third of the deaths correspond to health and care personnel (nurses, doctors, social-health and social welfare operators), but among the most implicated are also employees, drivers and salespeople. At the national level, in the health and social assistance sector – hospitals, nursing homes and retirement homes, university institutes, clinics and polyclinics, homes for the elderly and the disabled – 69.8% of complaints and 21.6% of the deceased. In the last two months, more than 4 out of 10 cases are registered among health technicians: of these, 83% are nurses, 20% social and health workers, 10% doctors.
Deaths at work for Covid: Brescia third in Italy
In general, the average age of those infected is 47 years and 69.7% are women. With a third of infections and more than 41% of deaths, Lombardy is confirmed as the most affected region. These are the provinces with the highest number of infections: Milan (11.3%), Turin (7.7%), Brescia (4.4%), Bergamo (3.8%), Rome (3.5%) and Genoa (3%). Milan is also the province with the highest number of occupational infections in October, followed by Naples and Rome. The provinces with the most deaths: Bergamo (11.4%), Milan (8.1%), Brescia (7.5%), Naples (6.3%), Cremona (5.4%) and Rome (4, 2%).
