I’m with Alfonso D’Ambrosio, the director of Vo ‘who disguises himself as Santa Claus.

I can’t take most of school leaders: bureaucrats; locked in their rooms; of few words; passionate about politicians and technicalities; servants of power, whether of the right or left; cold; boring.

However, I met a truly unique and rare one: a director who disguises himself as Santa Claus send greetings to children; keeping your office door open; who plays rock music in the background while studying decrees and laws; that organizes teaching colleges talking about Mario Lodi and Maria Montessori; that he does not have the dark and sad face of a bureaucrat but the smile on his face.

A school principal who knows how to work in a team, who spends time with his teachers; that he really achieved “Community agreements” so that their children live experiences in the territory. This man is called Alfonso D’Ambrosio and is the director of the comprehensive institute Vo Euganeo elected by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella for the opening of the school year.

I am honest. The first time I called him on the phone, I did so with a prejudice: this will be the usual “paraculo” that had benches, masks and so on before the others. He will be a friend of friends, close to a politician. I did not know him. After a few minutes of dialogue I realized that I was wrong, that I was in front of a man who was passionate about his work and frank.

He told me the truth, did not hide anything. From that moment I started to “follow” him on his Facebook profile and discovered a trained director, innovative, entrepreneur, human. From the formal “you” we have passed to the natural “you”. We began to confront each other, to pass ideas, to dream.

I understood that Alfonso D’Ambrosio was one of those few directors beloved by their teachers; from parents who write to you on Facebook; of the community that esteems and appreciates him.

In recent days cold shower: Alfonso was sanctioned for expressing criticism of the management of the school. You will all ask: but what did he say so scandalous? The contested and reported words in the indictment are still on his Facebook profile. What Alfonso said I could have said too. Maybe even you who read this post.

In these hours, many of those who know him have written to me after my article published in ilFattoQuotidiano.it. One of the messages I received reads like this: “Our director doesn’t deserve the open sludge thrown at him. Still exists freedom of expression in this country? Especially if it is practiced with grace, education and conscience. Do we want to leave this director alone? This man who has done so much and revolutionized from within? ”.

But let’s also admit that Alfonso did out of the jar (even if not): maybe it is not worth looking at the growing forest instead of the fallen tree? Is it no longer useful to talk, to count all the initiatives launched by this director? Isn’t it better to listen to the parents of this school? Back to me a proverb: “When the wise man points to the moon, the fool looks at the finger.”

In these hours a petition was launched. I ask you to sign it and spread it out. I am sure that the Minister of Education Lucia azzolina, will soon intervene avoiding any disciplinary proceedings against a rare example of a manager who loves his job but most of all loves his employers: children!
