It supplied “non-regular” masks to the Sardinia region on the basis of a contract of 18 million euros. A Calabrian businessman, Renato De Martin, owner of the Demar Hospital, was arrested by the Guardia di Finanza of Cagliari. The preventive seizure of 10.8 million Cagliari was also ordered against him, and the Public Ministry issued a decree of seizure of more than 2.7 million surgical masks, Ffp2 and Ffp3.
Some of the masks, according to the findings of the military, did not comply with the legislation, others did not have the proper documentation.
The events date back to March, when Regional Civil Protection had announced a contract for the purchase of 4 million pieces, including surgical masks and other personal protective equipment, for a total amount of more than 18 million euros.
The winning company had agreed to supply the material within a specific period, to which the payment of the supply was linked, divided into several installments.
Fiamme Gialle’s investigations show that the devices did not have all the technical certifications and that in some cases, irregular certifications were used to accompany the products manufactured in China.
Inail itself denied their commercialization because the devices did not meet or comply with community and national standards.
The entrepreneur had claimed to have obtained validation from the Higher Institute of Health, but it was all false.
