I say to the Corriere – Why weren’t the Bianchi brothers already in prison?

Dear aldo,
I really hope that the judicial process does not have infinite times because it has accustomed us to the idea that no one in this country pays anymore, or at least very little compared to what they should.
Pietro Balugani

In the tragedy of Willy’s death, I was struck by the outrage of the victim to the point of racial hatred by well-known web lynchers, in open defiance of existing laws. I hope they are prosecuted.
Massimo Marnetto

Willy made a gesture that most of us no longer do: not turn our backs in front of scenes that see a person victim of violence, insults, harassment.
Francesco Giovannelli

Dear readers,
The terrible news of the murder of Willy Monteiro Duarte (Monteiro: the same last name as the boy who was shot to death in the novel by Tabucchi Sosenga Pereira) has struck many of you. We should not listen to the usual four idiots of social networks, a serious but marginal phenomenon. The overwhelming majority not only of the Corriere community, but of the Italian public opinion reacted with emotion and indignation. Because feelings are not enough. We have to act so that crimes and tragedies of this kind do not recur, or at least make it more difficult for them to repeat themselves.
I was struck by the fact that the Bianchi brothers had attacked and beaten a traffic policeman in recent days who had asked them to wear a mask. Hence the question: what were they doing on the loose? Shouldn’t anyone who hits a public official be in prison? Not only that: Gabriele and Marco Bianchi had behind eight complaints for fights, threats, drugs, injuries, illegal port of objects capable of offending. Society must be defended by those people. Before that, such people must be defended by themselves.
Prison is not and should never become hell. the place where people who could harm others are locked up. – or at least it should be – the place where these people are not punished but returned to social life. Emptying prisons is never a solution. Building new ones, even in the place of old structures in the center of our cities, from San Vittore to Regina Coeli, does not mean being forcaioli, but protecting the victims and the weak.

TODAY’S OTHER LETTERS

The injustice

Magazines not delivered, but “without anomalies”

For more than twenty years I have been a subscriber to the specialized American music magazine Down Beat, which I always received regularly until a year ago. The publication, packed in transparent cellophane as is normally used, was no longer delivered to me in the period from August 2019 to February 2020. The repeated reports to Correos de Bollate (Milan) did not produce the slightest effect to the point of provoking the suspicion that, given its peculiarity, it could be stolen during classification. Therefore, I had to ask the US publisher to arrange the shipment in a sealed envelope to overcome this inconvenience with the consequent additional costs. At the moment I have not yet realized how much shipping costs me and how much the subscription costs me. But by renewing it, they will find out. Meanwhile, in May I learned from the press that the investigations of the carabinieri led to a complaint against the operators of the Roserío Classification Center for theft and manipulation of correspondence. Consequently, I submitted a claim for the damages suffered to the Retail Customers Department of the Italian Post Office. A few weeks ago the astonishing response which contained the following statement After our checks, we inform you that no particular criticisms or anomalies have arisen. Thanks are not lacking for reporting. Any superfluous comments.
Giordano Minora, Bollate (Milan)
