For some time now, elections have been decided in the last days, if not in the last hours; when you create a trend that polls overlook, or even misinterpret. For example, the latest polls in Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany led the League, which instead lost drastically (but the same had happened to Hillary Clinton and Brexit opponents). This happens because for a long time the fluid vote, the memberships have crumbled, the undecided and the influence of social networks are on the rise. This time the vote has stabilized. Voters are afraid. A little ‘we have all passed the hardest test of our life, and we feel that sadly it does not end there. A regional president who fails a movement can cause problems and pain. Pugliesi and Campania have largely reconfirmed two governors of the left, but especially appreciated by the right; The Venetians and Ligurians did the same with Zaia and Toti. In Tuscany there was no outgoing person to reconfirm; but there was a system that, although somewhat rusty, held.
I would not speak of the defeat of the right. And I would wait to give Matteo Salvini as finished. Of course, he should have understood that where the weakest League – in the old Red Regions, but also in the big cities – cannot aspire to win with candidates with such a marked ideological profile. It would be one more good reason to go back to one-person boarding schools. There is an electoral law that has worked and bears the name of the current president of the Republic. A one-line arrangement would be sufficient to restore the Mattarellum. Instead, they prepare a return to proportionality.
