While his imagination and inventiveness have not been affected in the slightest, there is a veil of sadness in the eyes of Oscar Bontempo, the man who last year Qdpnews.it had inadequately defined. “The man with 60 thousand lights” because in the end the lights of his house in via Díaz in San Fior, turned on in 2019, were about 90 thousand (see article).
This year, however, some health problems and the Covid emergency have imposed a “forced break” on those who have become famous throughout Italy for this tradition and known to the Sanfioresi by the nickname “Mr. Christmas”.
There are actually some light shows, but nothing comparable to the light show of previous years, capable of attracting fans from all over the Veneto region and beyond.
In fact, thousands of people came to San Fior each year during the Christmas period to admire the play of lights and decorations created by Bontempo to “greet” Christmas and other festivals in their own way.
In 2020, a year upset by the Covid emergency, Oscar Bontempo also surrendered due to the risk linked to the gatherings that could have been created with people who could have come to his house to take photos or selfies in his magical luminous world.
There were many families with children, dating couples but also elderly people who liked to go and immortalize the Bontempo creations that every year were enriched with lights, colors and shadows that warmed the heart and soul in one of the most beautiful times. and most anticipated of the year.
In the past, many newspapers and televisions have interviewed Oscar Bontempo, highlighting the success and notoriety achieved over the years, even outside the borders of the Veneto region.
The great sense of responsibility of man, however, has prevailed over any kind of exaltation of work and his ability to make these creations.
In the last period, publications and reflections of some users have appeared on social networks trying to understand if the lights of Vía Díaz were already on.
It is not difficult to imagine the disappointment of all these people when it is officially known that for this year Bontempo has decided to suspend this beautiful tradition.
In reality, even if perhaps all the fans are not enough, there is one consolation: Oscar Bontempo has promised that, if Covid allows it, the lights will be even brighter next year.
