I can’t sleep, I think of our love

Paolo Rossi was hospitalized in the neurosurgery room of the Le Scotte hospital in Siena, assisted by the chief physician, Giuseppe Oliveri, the same specialist who operated on and treated Alex Zanardi. Together they watched Juventus-Torino on television as fans, because “Pablito” never took off his black and white jersey (and the national team) even when he stopped playing. He held it for the old woman, the doctor has his heart beating from the grenades.

It was the last game that he did not want to lose despite his strength, little by little they were abandoning him. He was always sure that he could do it. That he too had won that World Cup. Who, suddenly, would become the terrorist again to write down the ugly evil (lung cancer) that caused his death at 64 years old. He had been diagnosed on his return from a trip to the Maldives with the whole family, from a dream vacation in a nature paradise – he must have renewed his wedding vows – to the hell of illness.

The last message to his wife: Thank you, God be with you and with the girls.

He never gave up, never. And until the end he tried to remain attached to the loves of his life, to his wife, to his children. He confessed to his wife the anguish of those moments in a last message. The dedication before the farewell.

Unfortunately I cannot sleep and I am agitated, I look at the photos you send me and I think of our great love. I would just like to thank you for what you are doing, for me and for our wonderful girls. You are truly unique for the energies that you put into it and for the love that you are capable of giving in everything. I hope the Lord can recognize all of this. Give you everything you deserve.

A book about Juve, that’s how its history began

Paolo Rossi had met Federica Cappelletti in 2003 and they got married in 2010. She, a journalist, had edited the book “Razza Juve” with other colleagues. He, the former champion who had closed the phone in his face except to give his consent after the invitation to be present at the event. Seven years later they would have pronounced the fateful yes and their daughters, María Vittoria (11 years old) and Sofía Elena (8) were born from their relationship. Alessandro, 38, is the oldest born from his previous marriage to Simona Rizzato.

I immediately fell in love with his smile, his generosity, the intelligence with which he saw things – said Rossi’s wife -. With Paolo, every moment was beautiful. He faced treatment with courage, rehabilitation with will. It was the game of our life, our World Cup. But this time we didn’t win it.
