Gaia and Camilla struck and murdered in Rome, Pietro Genovese:

“What happens now?” She bursts into a desperate cry Pietro Genovese, puts his hands on his face to read the sentence that condemns him, in the first instance, to eight years in prison. The 21-year-old son of the film director Paolo is convicted of aggravated double-track homicide of the two 16-year-old Gaia Von Freymann me Camilla Romagnoli.

Lawyers Franco Coppi and Gianluca Tognozzi try to comfort him. The situation is complicated. A few meters away, more tears flow, the result is welcomed by the relatives of the two victims. Judge Gaspare Sturzo himself is moved as he reads the device. Pietro Genovese comes out with his head down and explains: “To my despair at the death of the girls is added another despair, I did not expect such a severe punishment,” he says. He is stunned. The same prosecutor Roberto Felici had advanced a lighter sentence, 5 years. I did not expect such a decision.

PAIN
For the 21-year-old, the same considerations that he had raised before the judge last September when, during his statement, he affirmed that he had not “seen the girls, I remember that I left with the green light” apply. He didn’t want to kill anyone and he didn’t want to run away.
He then concluded by saying that “my life is now destroyed.”

To those words, after the hearing on September 28, Camilla Romagnoli’s mother replied: “I am deeply disappointed by the statements made in the courtroom by Pietro Genovese, it seemed that he was reciting a script already written by heart, he was indifferent to what he said “. It happened that he didn’t even turn to us who were behind him. He could have asked for forgiveness and he didn’t. He just said that he was heartbroken by what happened. Yesterday, after the eight-year sentence, the words of the same woman were partly different: “the sentence of a child, even if it took my daughter’s life, I don’t like it.”

THE DEFENSE
Yesterday, however, it was not only Genovese who was surprised by the decision of the gup Gaspare Sturzo. Even the defenders themselves have listened with astonishment to the reading of the device. His defense was also based on the guilt of the victims, who would have been reckless when crossing. They would not use the stripes and would pass with pedestrian red.

A dynamic, obviously, not accepted by the judge: «As far as we are concerned, the sentence does not reflect what emerged from the documents, especially with regard to the red pedestrian street. In any case, all the sentences are respected and the reasons will give us an account of the reasoning of the judge. This is how lawyers Franco Coppi and Gianluca Tognozzi explained outside the Rebibbia prison.

“Pietro’s tragedy was manifested by himself during this trial, the death of Gaia and Camilla changed his life forever and he has not thought of anything else since that day – add the two lawyers Coppi and Tognozzi – evidently with the sentence imposed that he sees . everything still dramatically darker.
