Almost 4,300 new infections this Wednesday, concentrated mainly in the provinces of Milan, Monza and Brianza and Varese: in recent days the figures in Lombardy have increased dramatically, so much so that the Region has been forced to issue an ordinance with stricter standards than those decided nationally.
And what about Bergamo? Although the new positivity has increased compared to the few dozen in August and September (Wednesday was 112), the data is much more contained and mostly linked to the high number of swabs that are performed daily.
Many are determined by tests in schools, even if, as revealed by the medical director of Ats Bergamo Carlo Alberto Tersalvi “The fears about infections have not proven to be well founded: this is due to the great work done by the Office of the Territorial School of Bergamo together with our technicians, to ensure that a high level of safety is maintained.”
However, a different discourse for traveling by public transport or for sports, where according to Tersalvi it is not possible to maintain the same rigor: “They go from a highly protected environment like that of school, between masks and distance, to others that are less controlled. These are situations that have caused a decrease in the age group of those infected, with an average of 38 years today ”.
Among the environments that, however, run the risk of becoming incubators of infections is the family one.
“We have to keep our attention at home as well, in any case, regardless of any positivity. – spiega Tersalvi – Relaxation, trust in kinship and movement allowed the virus to spread in these cases as well. In the last few days we have had an index case that later resulted in some sixty positive contacts: initially it was an older person, then a parent and finally the younger children, three and all with many contacts between the school and the sports clubs. The positivity triggers the epidemiological investigation of the Ats technicians and the tracking becomes essential to avoid this spread like wildfire ”.
How should one behave?
The first rule is the same: wash your hands as soon as you get home.
“A simple gesture that has a great influence on reducing viral load. It can also help to change clothes, very carefully – continues Tersalvi – If we have a positive case in the family, forced to quarantine, it is essential to try, as far as possible, to reserve exclusive environments, such as a bedroom and a bathroom. Rooms that must be ventilated every two hours. In the event that it is not possible to have rooms for exclusive use, remember to sanitize each time they are used by the positive. It would also be helpful to have washcloths, plates, silverware and glasses. Finally, the mask: if we stay in the same room in the family with a quarantined person, it is essential to keep it ”.
Forecast that can help defend us against the virus because, despite the current numbers in the province, we can never feel safe: “I think it depends a lot on our attitude and in Bergamo the population was very attentive even in periods of less diffusion – concludes Tersalvi -. I do not know if the measures decided in recent days are sufficient, but certainly this succession of information has not helped citizens much. It is true that we have to adjust the game to follow the epidemiological evolution, but people need clear orders ”.
