Nobody knows his identity but Banksy every time he gets people to talk about himself. In this case, however, it is not his artistic work, but rather a ship that has been operating in the Mediterranean since August 18 with the aim of rescuing migrants in difficulty.
This is the Louise michel, name inspired by the famous French anarchist writer, set sail for the first time shortly after August 15 from the Spanish port of Burriana with a drawing, clearly visible on one side, of a girl in a life jacket made by the artist.
The ship has now carried out its first rescue operation at sea, saving 89 migrants, including 14 women and 4 children So much so that it is now waiting to be assigned a safe port to disembark the people on board.
At a time when, because of the coronavirus tsunami, Europe has almost forgotten the migration emergency that is always in place, Banksy, on the contrary, wanted personally fund the NGO allowing it to operate at sea.
As reported by the guardian, in September 2019 the king of street art was contacted by email Pia Klemp, a former German captain and human rights activist who thus made available an undisclosed sum thanks to Banksy to be able to acquire a 31-meter-long motor yacht that in the past was in the service of the French customs authorities.
