Hope to the Regions: “Do not ignore the seriousness of the data.” Now Calabria is contesting the red zone, but has changed the intensive care numbers at the last minute

The Calabria answers the red zone and announces that he will defy the order of the Minister of Health. But right there Calabria, only yesterday, changed the criteria for counting patients in the last minute intensive care counting only intubated patients. A change that allowed changing 26 hospitalized a 10 in just two hours. For the Acting President of the League Nino Spirlì nothing strange: the government’s decision “is unjustifiable” and in fact the regional health system is not experiencing difficulties. But, as the Minister of Health himself recalled shortly before Roberto Speranza, the data that led the executive to decide the decision in yellow, orange and red bands are the same as those communicated by the Regions: “It is surreal,” he said, “that instead of assuming their share of responsibility, there are those who Pretend ignore the severity of the data that refer to their territories. The Regions feed the data with which the control room has been monitoring since May. In the control room there are three representatives indicated by the Regions. We need unity and responsibility. There are no unnecessary controversies ”.

If the first to protest was the president of Lombardy Attilio fontana, Calabria intervened today announcing that it will act against the ordinance that determined the Region as “Red zone“:” We will challenge the new ordinance of the Minister of Health that establishes the red zone. This region does not deserve an isolation that runs the risk of being fatal for it, ”he said. “The constant discussions that I have had in recent days with members of the Government and with Commissioner Arcuri, beyond everyone’s great desire for dialogue, have not produced any change with respect to the obviously preconceived will to ‘close’ a region whose epidemiological data, in fact, they do not justify any confinement, especially when compared with those of our companions in misfortune: Lombardy, Piedmont and Val d’Aosta ”. The accusation is that “other Regions, with figures worse than ours, have also been included in the orange zone and have avoided, and I am happy, the closure. Therefore, the scientific criteria based on which the government decided the ‘life’ or ‘death’ of a territory are not understood. Because this is what it is: a new blockade runs the risk of definitively annihilating a region like Calabria. No one denies the atavistic difficulties of our health system, but, in recent weeks, the Region, through differentiated measures and targeted restrictions, has managed to limit the damage and keep the epidemiological curve under control ”. He then concluded: “The total number of infections and the current state of our health service cannot therefore offer any support for the choice to include Calabria in the red zones of the country. The government has decided to punish us, but we don’t give in“.
