They exchange a kiss as they walk hand in hand through the center of Padua and are attacked, insulted, thrown to the ground, kicked and beaten by a group of four boys and two girls. the umpteenth episode of violence that, last night, two boys were thrown: Mattias Zouta, 26 years old, pizza maker and Marlon landolfo, 21 years old, university student. Guilty of being engaged. Fortunately, the outcome was not the same for Willy Monteiro Duarte, but the spark that ignited the empty heads of the attackers has the same roots of hatred and ignorance.
Aggression in the center
The attack began in front of the City Hall and continued in Piazza delle Erbe until the arrival of the carabinieri. A friend of the young couple, in an attempt to defend them, was hit with a glass on the head and had to resort to the care of doctors who sewed up a head wound. The same victims denounce it on Facebook: it was a homophobic attack, which began with insults and mocking phrases for a kiss that we exchanged while we were walking near Piazza delle Erbe – they write in a post. And for that kiss they insulted us and some of our friends, they threw us on the ground, kicked and beat us, a friend who had gotten in the way to defend us they broke a glass on his head, forcing him to seek help in the ambulance with the result of 5 points.

Local police and carabinieri intervened on the spot and a complaint was subsequently filed. The violent and hateful phrases that the attackers shouted – we read in the post – had a clear homophobic message towards us, and are a symptom of ignorance and hatred towards different people. Then, in a video broadcast on social networks, the two young people: We decided to tell what happened because we are tired of having to deal with homophobic episodes. We want to ensure that these manifestations of hatred and discrimination cease to exist. I also think of the young Willy – adds one of the two – murdered by toxic masculinity and by these careless behaviors in front of the community and diversity. the time has come to say enough.
The Mayor’s Commitment
The episode aroused the indignation of the mayor of Padua Sergio Giordani: In the hope that the perpetrators will be identified as soon as possible, it must be reiterated that Padua is a free city that does not tolerate abuse – he said -. The commitment at all levels to combat all discrimination and forms of violence must be confirmed, also with the appropriate regulatory instruments.
