Alessandro Pontin, the 49-year-old from Trebaseleghe (Padua) who yesterday stabbed his children to death and then took his own life, was denounced by his wife in May because he did not pay the alimony sanctioned by the divorce. The man, who was a carpenter, had had some labor difficulties and Covid-19 had only made his financial situation worse. However, in August he had managed to collect some savings and settle the unfinished account with his wife; For this reason he had withdrawn the complaint, and as a consequence the Padua Prosecutor’s Office had closed the case.
However, the man’s gesture, according to investigators, is not related to a revenge against his ex-wife. It seems that the relations between the two were good; the separation, which took place more than 10 years ago, had been consensual and the woman had not informed the police of the particular tensions between them. One of the hypotheses about the causes of the crime is that the man had fought with the two boys, or that his hand was armed by a depression never diagnosed or understood by those around him.
When he found the three corpses in the house, in a pool of blood, it was the man’s brother, who was waiting for him with his nephews for lunch. In the next few hours there will be an autopsy to find out if Pontin had taken drugs or drugs, even if nothing suspicious was found in the house. In the murder house a note was found in which the man asked not to have the funeral and to disperse his ashes. The Trebaseleghe community has raised mourning flags. Mayor Antonella Zoggia asked citizens to place a lamp in the windows of the houses, as a sign of prayer and meditation for the two boys.
