Hellas Verona-Roma 0-0 – Checkmate

The first official match of the new season ends in a draw, with 0-0 against Hellas Verona.

THE OPTIONS – Few surprises for two coaches. Fonseca retains Dzeko, ready to leave for Turin, deploying Mkhitaryan as first forward with Pedro and Pellegrini in support. The Portuguese coach confirms the 3-4-2-1 with Karsdorp and Spinazzola out, Diawara and Veretout in the middle of the field (the former Napoli in front of the defense while the French in a more advanced position, ready to put pressure on Veloso) . In defense, Kumbulla stays on the bench and it’s up to Cristante to lead the defense with Ibáñez on the left and Mancini on the right.
Juric, in full emergency, responds with the same game system by throwing the former Giallorossi Çetin into the fray while Gunter manages the defense with personality and efficiency. On the wings, the task of pushing is in the hands of Faraoni and Dimarco, while Tameze and Tupta line up behind Di Carmine.

THE BEGINNING – The hosts try to start where they left off, pressing high, but Roma manage to get out ball and chain quite easily. The Giallorossi focus on the quality of Pellegrini and Pedro, the first substitute to find interesting passing lanes, the second with the task of aiming and dribbling the rival. Mkhitaryan is tasked with attacking the depth, waiting for a specialist in the sector like Milik, while Karsdorp and Spinazzola surround Hellas Verona.
Fonseca’s side are also trying to surprise Juric’s with sudden center holes, with Mkhitaryan (as mentioned) ready to attack depth trying to hamper Hellas Verona’s new defense. The Capitol, however, wastes too many opportunities.
The Scaligeri respond by trying to push out and throw long for Di Carmine, who is good at taming the ball and acting as a bench.

SHOOTING – In the second half, the Venetians raise the pressure that will disturb the construction of Rome from below: Di Carmine goes on Cristante, Zaccagni (who replaced Tupta) on Mancini, Tameze on Ibanez and Danzi goes up on Diawara.
The Giallorossi gasp and struggle to create interesting storylines. Pedro, in particular, is very tired but the whole team seems to be feeling tired for the first race of the season. The Capitolians push less on the flanks and are always looking for Pellegrini and Pedro in the truck but, too often, with trivial passages and the defense of Scaligera widely read.
Juric slowly switches the entire attack, inserting, as mentioned, Zaccagni and then Barak and Ilic. Fonseca meditates a little more and only in the last stage of the race does he intervene with Kluivert for Pellegrini and with Villar (at 89 ‘) for Diawara. Sample of a reluctance of the Portuguese coach to changes but, above all, of a market still in the making.
