It is the accusation that the Rome Prosecutor’s Office moves against 8 doctors of theHospital of the Child Jesus who work in Mediterranean Center for Pediatric Cardiology of Taormina and to the headquarters in the capital. Tuesday the accused, who must answer for involuntary manslaughter, will appear before the judge for the preliminary hearing in Rome after the impeachment request. Here the judge could order an expert opinion to know what happened and what possibly caused a supposed chain of errors.

The facts were told by Republic. The child, born with heart disease, undergoes 2016 to an operation in the center of Taormina, and here the three operating doctors implanted the reverse pacemaker, that is, face down. An error that causes a kind of knot in the artery that, in growth, causes a cardiocirculatory failure. That is why the family two years later is forced to take the child this time to Bambin Gesù in Rome. But according to the Prosecutor’s Office, the cardiologists who visit the minor do not understand the seriousness of the situation and delay a series of tests. The cardiologist finds some problems, but fixes the CT scan only two months later, according to prosecutors’ reconstruction. Then the clinical situation worsens as the weeks go by and in a new surgery, according to the magistrates, the doctors make a mistake in the procedure. Two days later the baby died.

“The reconstruction of history is far from reality. No pacemaker ‘turn it upside down‘. The affirmation Has no sense from a clinical point of view and it is not reflected in the research carried out so far, not even by family consultants ”, responds the Child Jesus in a note. a complication predicted in the literature that occurs in very few cases and can be resolved surgically. The surgery was already scheduled. But sadly, the boy, while waiting to return to the hospital, contracted a virus and then pneumonia that proved fatal. The hospital is close to the family and relies on the work of the judiciary ”.

“The truth will be known during the process, but our technical consultancy recognizes these responsibilities – the lawyer Domenico Naccari, who represents the child’s family, explains to AdnKronos – In our opinion the accusations are well founded, so obviously our assessment will be subject to legal experts. We think there may have been one concatenation of responsibilities and events, naturally, during the evidentiary incident it will be necessary to check whether this chain of responsibility really existed or if there are individual responsibilities ”. The complaint to the judicial authorities was presented by the minor’s grandfather. The boy, from Rosarno (Reggio Calabria), was born with a heart problem, a “complete congenital atrioventricular block”, for which in 2016 he underwent surgery in Taormina at the Mediterranean pediatric cardiology center of Bambin Gesù.
