Government, Matteo Salvini dictates the line to the center-right and works in the post-Conte – Il Tempo

They talked more about Giuseppe Conte than Benito Mussolini, but it was inevitable. If Matteo Salvini and Giorgia Meloni come together at the presentation of the new book by Bruno Vespa, with Silvio Berlusconi in connection and the deputy director of Corriere della Sera Antonio Polito to joke with their questions, it is difficult to talk about history. And then who knows who could answer the question why Italy loved Mussolini.

Of course, at some point no one will think of establishing a sentimental link between the people and the current prime minister. Giuseppe Conte will fall into oblivion, and none of the three center-right leaders has any desire to help him stay at Palazzo Chigi.

The problem is already behind Conte and a recipe that until recently seemed absolutely excluded – an alternative government if it is not voted on – also begins to see the alignment of Giorgia Meloni with Salvini’s thesis, although with some yes and buts.

The head of the League has made it clear for the umpteenth time that he does not think at all in an indistinct crowd: “How can I govern with those who think of dismantling the security decrees?” Which, together with the request for immediate and finally evident refreshment for those who should remain closed due to a new blockade decided by the government, says a lot about the distance with the government also in terms of fighting the pandemic.

Giorgia Meloni no longer excludes the search for a government hypothesis if the way to vote should be blocked. But not with the parties that support the Conte government ”. What seems like a pass in search of leaders who do not want to go home with early elections. And the final seal is from Berlusconi: “As the Hill decides.”

So among the things that should never happen, the conditional is always mandatory with this policy, there should be no support for the left government.

If Conte is really knocked out, the center-right says to aim for the vote. But as it always happens that the first option is a flag, the ground is being prepared to replace both Conte and his majority.

Although Meloni is skeptical, because she says she does not believe in an alternative majority that can count on one or two MPs more than the opposition. But the feeling in the buildings is that if the collapse of deputies and senators begins, there will be many more. However, Fdi does not intend to hinder Salvini’s bet, apparently, even if the leader does not give up: “I have never trusted Conte.” A little ‘agree, a little’ no, that’s what the center-right is like, although later it is able to find itself united. And after all, if the opportunity existed, how could you say no to a parliamentary majority centered on the center-right?

There is also a space on Rome, when the discussion leads to the municipal elections. Meloni reiterates his no to his candidacy, in a few years you will see. However, they will find the Capitol standard-bearer “in a year.” Hoping it doesn’t happen “by September”, “by October”, “by November” … according to a script already seen.

But the important thing is to stay together. Even in the presence, when it happens, of divergences that can later be smoothed out. And this, in the face of the collapse of the ruling coalition, remains an important show of force that speaks directly to the Italian people. What increasingly needs an authentic and alternative representation to an executive who no longer knows what to do with it. And after all, the “vaccine” of the center-right can only be its compactness in front of the electoral body.
