The penitential act will begin with “I confess before Almighty God and before you, brothers and sisters …” and will continue with “And I pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary, to the angels, to the saints and to you, brothers and sisters … “. The will of the Pope, therefore, was to add a clear reference to women in a liturgy in which the celebrant almost always uses masculine terms.
“Peace to men of good will” disappears in glory, replaced by “peace to men loved by the Lord.” The invocations “Lord, mercy, Christ, mercy” are then replaced by the corresponding ones in Greek: “Kyrie eleison, Christe eleison”. The Lord was invoked with “remembering all present”, but this will never happen again. The new phrase is “Remember all those gathered here” because the faithful are not simply present at Mass, but all those gathered in the name of Christ. The Eucharistic Prayer of Reconciliation also changes: “he took the cup of wine and once again gave thanks” becomes “he took the cup full of the fruit of the vine.”
When, at the end of the pandemic, the faithful can again shake hands in church, They will no longer hear “change a sign of peace” but “change the gift of peace” and consecration also changes: “Here is the Lamb of God, here is the one who takes away the sins of the world.” Blessed are those invited to the Supper of the Lamb ”replaces“ Blessed are those invited to the Lord’s Supper ”.
