Italian teacher Carlo Mazzone has been nominated among the 10 finalists for the Global Teacher Prize 2020, an award in collaboration with Unesco.
Now in its sixth year, the $ 1 million award established by the Varkey Foundation is the largest award of its kind.
The winner will be announced at the Global Teacher Prize awards ceremony on December 3, 2020, practically for the first time in its history due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among the top 10 with Carlo Mazzone were also teachers Jamie Frost (England), Mokhudu Cynthia Machaba (South Africa), Leah Juelke (USA) and Yun Jeong-hyun (South Korea).
The remaining five finalists will be announced in the coming weeks.
Carlo Mazzone teaches in an area of high unemployment and his main innovation has been to create teaching materials based on vast experience of what really works in his field.
Over the years, his published work in C and C ++ has become a bestseller in Italy and is also used in some universities. He also holds the official title of Digital Animator, which means that he guides the implementation of the Government’s National Digital Schools Plan in his school.
“Congratulations to Carlo Mazzone for being chosen as one of the top ten finalists from a large number of talented and motivated teachers. I hope his story inspires those who want to enter the teaching profession and highlights the incredible work that teachers do every day in Italy and around the world. “said Stefania Giannini, former Minister of Education and current UNESCO Deputy Director-General for the education sector.
