Enna, October 5, 2020 – After the first (surprising) trumpet blasts on Etna the Tour of Italy 2020 Stay here Sicily with the stage 4 which will take place between the provinces of Catania and Messina. Programmed tomorrow the Catania-Villafranca Tirrena 140 kilometers long and practically all flat except for a mountain grand prix halfway through, perhaps the first opportunity for sprinters will come. The general classification, revolutionized after the uphill arrival of the volcano, should not suffer more blows (if the falls and the wind allow it).

Road

First part of an undulating section but without great difficulty, then we ascend towards the Portella Mandrazzi Gpm which is long, almost 20 kilometers uphill, but with gentle slopes of 4%. Crossing at kilometer 75 of the race, a climb that will lead to an escape. But from here it’s downhill and flat until the end, the last 32 kilometers should allow the group to come back for a final sprint.

Departure from Catania at 12:15 p.m., Portella Mandrazzi GPM between 2:30 p.m. and 2:46 p.m., crossing the aerial finish line in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto (kilometer 114) between 3:15 p.m. and 3:48 p.m., scheduled arrival in Villafranca Tirrena between 3:49 and 4:49 p.m. 16.12 h. Favorites

Despite a long but pedaled climb in the middle, Villafranca’s should be the sprinters’ first chance. There are four main sprinters in the pink race: Peter Sagan, Elia Viviani, Arnaud demare me Fernando Gaviria.
