The death toll from the shooting near a door in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin in circumstances not yet clarified is four seriously injured. Three of the wounded were found in a driveway, the fourth was recovered from a canal, according to reports from German police, who were busy scouring the area on foot and by helicopter in search of the fleeing attackers. Nearby is the headquarters of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD). The reasons for the attack are not yet clear.

Initially, the Fire Brigade had spoken of three seriously injured, then the police found the fourth in the canal who suffered a leg injury. The entire area surrounding the scene of the shooting was sealed off by the police who are also searching the surroundings of the Moeckernbruecke subway station. The police did not provide information on who was behind the violence and declined to release further information so as not to obstruct the ongoing investigation.
