The fear is that, in addition to a 90-year-old woman, now admitted to the Galliera hospital, there are other guests infected by Covid and that therefore we may be facing an outbreak.
Countermeasures were activated immediately and yesterday morning all the guests (about sixty people) and all the staff (more than 90 including nurses, health workers and collaborators) who work in the structure and who, in recent days, may have had contact with the woman. The results of the swabs, analyzed at the San Martino hospital, should arrive between today and tomorrow, but the geriatrician Ernesto Palummeri admits that since March, the coronavirus emergency of Alisa l has been following in more than 240 nursing homes, homes for the disabled and patients psychiatric. that he did not expect to face the risk of a new alarm from the RSA. “At the moment, the operators and guests of the facility have no symptoms attributable to Covid, but we cannot hide the fact that there is a risk of an outbreak. We are monitoring the situation hour by hour, together with ASL; We have implemented all the procedures established in the protocols and we are in contact with the San Camillo health department ”. Concerned about the health conditions of the employees and guests, as well as the possible repercussions on the structure, Managing Director Marco Ragaglia prefers not to comment on the story.
It remains to be determined how the 90-year-old man became infected.: When she was transferred by ambulance to the Galliera emergency room, she followed the whole process and, before being hospitalized, she underwent the test. Which was negative, but, as has happened on several occasions, the positivity for Covid was verified during another check-up. “We do not know if the infection manifested itself in San Camillo or in the hospital. However, I feel that I can exclude that the relatives of the elderly guests were transmitting the coronavirus because the protection measures applied are very strict ”.
After this case the level of care for Ligurian nursing homes is raised and the first lighthouse is lit right in San Camillo, one of the structures that is at the center of the investigation by the Judicial Power: from the expert reports an alarming picture had emerged for the three most critical months: 22 deaths from Covid (plus another 23 for other reasons), 10 guests and 8 positive operators.
The investigation of the prosecution for guilty epidemic, coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Francesco Pinto, is entrusted to the Guardia di Finanza and the Nas: so far six Don Orione Paverano nursing homes have participated, in San Fruttuoso; Holy Family of the Blue Years, in Rivarolo; Grupo Fides Rehabilitation Center, in Quinto; Camandolina, San Camillo y Torriglia Protected Residence, in Chiavari. The directors of the six health care RSAs are under investigation.
