“If, as I hope, the Astrazeneca vaccine reaches Sacco, I will volunteer.” Professor Massimo Galli takes sides in favor of anti-Covid vaccination, as a result of the controversy that arose over the departure, then partially retracted, of the virologist Andrea Crisanti. Galli says that he is in favor of the vaccine and, speaking of his colleague and professor at the University of Padua, explains: “If I know him a little, I think that my very intolerance towards too many advertisements and too little published data is alive.”
“If we have to give a medical opinion, we currently don’t know on what basis to do it,” Galli explains. «It is a pity if you define yourself by such a reaction no vax. We just need to know more. Therefore, the wait is in the data, for a solution that, according to Galli, will not be able to arrive definitively before next year. “We need data and not dates,” he reiterated, “timing depends on it, while we must avoid forward leakage and extend tracing, swabs and saliva tests as much as possible.”
“I always feel like I’m not doing enough”
Galli then talks about the second wave and how this is also affecting health workers: “I have lost my fourth friend since March and I always have the impression that I am not doing enough. Two were medical colleagues and fortunately I did not treat them personally, because defeating Covid is a challenge, ”says Galli. “Almost always the infection does not come from the patients, but from the relatives of the doctors and when the infection is widespread it may happen that someone takes it to the hospital.”
The contagion, reiterates the teacher, is widespread, although an improvement is beginning to be seen. “This is also thanks to the reorganization of the allocation of patients to hospitals,” says Galli, underlining that the pressure on health facilities remains very strong. In this sense, the invitation is not to withdraw with restrictive measures: “I know it is unpopular to say so, but it is not the time for everyone to be free and it will not be for long. We would not get out of it if instead of looking at reality we started the race to reopen.
