Don Massimo from the altar: “Your life will not be lost, now you have the infinity of space”. They flew balloons in the cemetery
SAN GIORGIO DELLE PERTICHE. “We thought they had so much life ahead of them, with consternation we thought how difficult it is to see Pietro and Francesca die, with all their projects. We must open ourselves to hope, the Lord has tenderly welcomed everyone ”.
With these words, Father Massimo Facchin, a newcomer to the head of the parish, tried to explain in a Christian way the death of the two boys, 13 and 15 years old, murdered by their father on Sunday Trebaseleghe. It was a painful ceremony that took place on Christmas Eve in the church of San Giorgio delle Pertiche packed with the two boys’ classmates, family and friends. The entrance to the church was limited, many listened to the funeral from the square.
“Dear Francesca and Pietro, I am sorry I did not meet you, I am sorry that the first and only occasion is this, that of the last goodbye and of a word that only goes one way: but we will make up for it in other spaces, in dimensions difficult to understand but easy to live with faith and love. We will talk and get to know each other by meeting in the house that the Lord prepares for us and which is called the communion of saints.
“I am sorry that your dreams, projects and desires that were beginning to blossom in you cannot come true here on this earth, in relationships with your loved ones, with your friends. But I assure you that your existence will not be lost: now you have infinity of space and eternity of time to be who you are, along with countless friends that you only know now but with whom you will live forever, friends who love you as Heavenly Father loves you and who will make you feel at home. “
At the end of the ceremony, the balloons flew into the sky. The funeral of his father, Alessandro Pontin, 49, will not take place. According to his will, he will be cremated. One of the next days he will be transferred from the Padua morgue, where he is, to the crematorium.
On Saturday night Alessandro Pontin, separated from his wife for five years, wrote a farewell note, then took a kitchen knife and slit the throats of the two children who were to spend the weekend before Christmas with him.
Francesca and Pietro woke up with a start after receiving the blows, tried a desperate escape towards the exit door but were hit and ended in a fury of blows. Once he killed them, he turned the blade towards himself and sliced through the jugular.
