Frosinone, Covid, the longest days. Lazio is in the trenches

“It will be a battle for the defense of Rome and Lazio.”
The regional councilor Alessio D’Amato does not beat around the bush, who yesterday took stock of the situation in Lazio, together with the president of the Region Nicola Zingaretti. Among other things, D’Amato had already anticipated that the peak of the second wave was expected in mid-November. But yesterday he specified that the curve will be rising throughout the month. And Lazio is in the trenches. With the helmet.

D’Amato argued: “It is an extraordinary effort that we are asking of the structures and they will have to launch it in a week. The sizing of the network is carried out through scenarios, which in this case foresee an upward trend in the epidemic curve until the end of November, and it is sufficient to contain it. Either the implemented measures produce cooling effects of the curve or all the other scenarios will be faced by the whole country ”.

Stop the curve
This is the categorical imperative of Nicola Zingaretti.
The governor explained that “in recent months we have defended Lazio and the capital.” He thanked the citizens “for their virtuous behavior,” then added: “Let’s keep our guard up. Lazio is currently in the yellow band because our monitoring and containment measures have worked but being in the yellow band should not be interpreted in any way. like a green light. “Then the underline:” It is necessary to stop the contagion curve at all costs and, at the same time, be close to people and their concerns, not just health, and invest to grow. We need to be united by the rebirth of our region and the country.

Strengthening the network
Also yesterday Zingaretti signed an ordinance for 5,310 Covid beds in Lazio, of which 4,409 in ordinary hospitalization and 901 in intensive and sub-intensive care.
Note that there are now 2,913 beds, of which 2,381 are ordinary and 532 are in intensive and sub-intensive care. Of 40 structures involved. Zingaretti affirmed: «In Lazio the farm is under stress, but it exists and is the daughter of rules arrived at the opportune moment and virtuous behaviors. For the next thirty days we must keep our attention very high. A concept in which the president of the Region has insisted a lot, reiterating several times “that the enemy is the virus, not the rules.” Observing: “Days of battle await us.”

Also on the side of improving health, the president of the regional council Mauro Buschini also expressed his opinion. Noting in a note: «Since the start of the pandemic in Lazio we have hired 6,495 people: 855 doctors, more than 4,600 nurses and more than 900 other professionals. Of the total, 3,838 were hired indefinitely. There are critical issues, of course, but an incredible effort is being made to combat Covid-19 and ensure the protection of the health of all citizens. We defended Lazio thanks above all to the correct behavior of the people, but being in the yellow band does not at all mean lowering our guard: respect for the rules is essential. Only together and united can we defeat this virus. It is clear that this second wave is having a very strong impact on the Lazio hospital network, which has become a true Maginot line.

Buds and beak
Councilor Alessio D’Amato said: «In three weeks the outbreaks have doubled, we have gone from 246 to 455: 89% occurred within the family. We find a Rt of 1.29, a little lower in Rome and a little higher in the provinces. This should raise the level of care, we have an average incidence of 181 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. It will be a battle for the defense of Rome and Lazio. On the subject of the rise in the contagion curve with many cases linked to what happens in the family, D’Amato pointed out: «This is linked to the measures, which must be adopted, of individual protection and promiscuity. We spent a crazy summer, in which all this has happened less and we continue to pay the consequences.
And again: «We are in the yellow zone, but we can become the red zone: it depends only on us. You don’t have to let your guard down, let’s raise the defense lines.
In recent weeks, outbreaks have doubled, especially in the family. Prevention and protection actions are needed ”. For D’Amato “there is no competition between the regions.” Specifying: «We are all in the same boat, the objective is to defeat the virus, not the color card. Let’s not waste a minute behind the controversy, we are working to defend Rome and Lazio ».

The plateau stage
But D’Amato also focused on an important stage. The absolute numbers are huge, but for days the curve has been more or less stable and appears to be resting on the “plateau.” Infections from this second wave, D’Amato explained, are 12 times higher than those in March. The commissioner said: “With the daily cases of this week, it seems that we are in a frame of plateau”. The plateau, literally the plateau, to which the experts refer, refers to the plane assumed by the curve of infections after the surge. This is a phase common to all pandemics, during which it is necessary to maintain all the emergency measures already planned and then to descend. This would suggest that, understanding that the absolute numbers are very high, there is nevertheless a certain stabilization of the profile of the curve.

System tilt risk
The president of the Lazio Region Nicola Zingaretti noted: “There is no bad wolf. The virus is the problem, if the curve does not stop, the system goes crazy throughout the national territory. This is precisely the quoque of the discussion of these hours: the need to have rules in the closure of containment and responsible behavior. If the curve did not stop, there would be a very serious problem of containment and hospitality of the health system. In Lazio, when we understood what the trend was, we put the curfew at 24 and the obligation to wear masks, because now the measures to stop the curve are the absolute priority to come back to life. We are aware that Covid has immersed us in the era of stolen years, the people, the young and the elderly, many of whom unfortunately abandon us prematurely because of Covid. The perception of frustration and fear should not be underestimated, but we must resist to fight this battle that must be won by rebuilding the hope that it can be done, stopping the contagion curve at all costs.
Being close to people for work, health and growth ”.
Flu shots
In all of 2019, 90,000 vaccines were manufactured in Lazio.
This year, in less than a month, we are already at 700,000. And 1,400,000 doses will still be distributed. Zingaretti has no doubts: “We hope to have the largest vaccination campaign in the history of the Region since the influenza vaccine exists.”

The Lower Lazio Trench
Regarding the strengthening of the hospital network, in Ciociaria the situation is as follows: Fabrizio Spaziani in Frosinone will reach a provision of 151 beds dedicated to Covid patients in this phase. But the novelty provided for in the ordinance signed yesterday by Nicola Zingaretti refers to the Saint Scholastica of Cassino. Where the beds for Coronavirus patients, when fully operational, will be 80. The new manager of the Asl de Frosinone, Dr. Pierpaola D’Alessandro, immediately went to work to launch a support plan for the two areas of the province very quickly. the north and the south. An extraordinary working group has already been activated in the general management, a working group also committed to guaranteeing maximum safety for healthcare professionals and qualified assistance to users.

Because it is clear that the activation of 80 Covid beds in the Cassino hospital will require a huge effort also on the part of the staff. But the regional plan also considers affiliated RSA, where Covid patients are hospitalized: Ini Città Bianca (136 beds), Villa Gioia (29), Villa Serena (38), San Raffaele Cassino (24). In Ciociaria we must then consider the Rsa San Camillo (10).

In total, between the hospital beds and the RSA beds, there are 468 beds in total. In the province of Latina, in the Santa María Goretti hospital, when it is fully operational, there will be 178 beds for Covid patients. Then 10 beds in the city of Aprilia. Then there is the Swiss Donation Hospital of Formia, with 6 beds.
The “rationale” for the entire Zingaretti ordinance is to strengthen the trench of beds in this second wave. The point is that the sheer numbers run the risk of causing the hospital system to plummet. That is why Lazio in October set the record among Italian regions for cases analyzed per 100,000 inhabitants: 4,641 from October 22 to November 4. But now we are entering the crucial phase, that of the battle for Lazio.
