With Circular no. 87 of July 17, the Inps announced that as of October 1, 2020 it will no longer publish PINs as access credentials for the Institute’s online services, but will instead become it is mandatory to have a SPID.

To allow the gradual transition to SPID, the shutdown will be preceded by a transition phase, starting from October 1, 2020 and during which:

– new Pins will not be issued to users, except those requested by users who cannot access SPID credentials, such as children under eighteen years of age or non-EU citizens, and only for services dedicated to them;

– PINs that are already in the possession of users will retain their validity and may be renewed after their natural expiration until the end of the transitional phase.

Based on the progress of the process, the Institute will set the final expiration date of the issued PINs.

Therefore, it becomes essential to understand what it is and how to request Digital Identity.

SPID is the access system that allows you to use the online services of the Public Administration using your credentials (username and password).

There are three different levels of SPID credential security:

– Level I: allows access to online services through a username and password chosen by the user;

– Level II: dedicated to services that require a higher degree of security (such as those of the Tax Agency or INPS), which allows access through a username and password chosen by the user; the generation of a temporary access code (one-time password), usable through a device (for example: smartphone);

– Level III: foresee the use of security solutions and additional physical devices (eg smart cards) provided by the identity manager.

To request and obtain SPID credentials, adult citizens residing in Italy must contact one of the authorized identity providers and be in possession of the following data:

An e-mail address;

The mobile phone number normally used;

A valid identity document (identity document, passport, residence permit);
Health insurance card.

To complete the activation of the credentials, the user must be recognized, which can be done in two ways:

– through the webcam: an operator verifies the identity of the applicant during a video call that can take place through a PC, tablet or mobile device equipped with a webcam;

– Through digital identity documents: the applicant identifies himself by means of his digital signature or his National Service Card by means of the special readers connected to the PC.
