Bergamo – «Living without freedom» begins the writing on the wall, from which the rest of the motto of the old League has been detached. But the sign of the restaurant “Il Carroccio” is clearly visible next to the door. And it is just behind that long yellow wall that Franco Colleoni, 68, provincial secretary of the Bergamo Northern League for five years, was killed yesterday morning with violent blows to the head and face. A crime for which there still does not seem to be a sure clue, so much so that late at night the carabinieri continued to listen to Colleoni’s family, friends and acquaintances to understand what it might have been to arm the murderer’s hand. Even if the fury with which the killer infuriated the victim may suggest that a motive of a personal nature, someone who harbored serious motives for resentment exploded in the attack.

The race
In Dalmine, a municipality where he had also been a councilor, Colleoni owned the restaurant “Il Carroccio” for twenty-six years, a place covered in posters and symbols of the Umberto Bossi festival. He himself, who joined what was still the Lombard League in 1988, even before becoming number one in the provincial party between 1999 and 2004, was someone who answered by phone saying not “Hello” but “Padania Libera”. And he had left the party when he saw him move away from his original positions.
The family
The restaurant is on the ground floor of a restored farmhouse where your home is located on the top floor. But in which there is also that of the ex-wife Tiziana Ferrari from whom Colleoni was separated for a time but with whom she had remained on good terms and that of one of the two children, Francesco. It was he who opened the gate that gives access to the court from the street at 11:30 yesterday. And at the end of the path that leads to the restaurant he found his father’s lifeless body on the ground, his head and face destroyed by several blows from a blunt instrument. The man notified 112 and then his mother and brother Federico who live on the same street.
The mode
According to the first evidence, Franco Colleoni had been dead for a few hours and the murderer may have used one of the garden tools that were kept in that part of the patio, some of which were found stained with blood. All have been found, but an autopsy will be necessary to see if the murder weapon is among them. During the first inspections, the Carabinieri of the Bergamo Operational Unit and the Compagnia di Treviglio then found Colleoni’s house overturned, so one of the first hypotheses was that the victim could have surprised some fleeing robbers, who then they would react violently.
The hypothesis
But it was precisely the form of the attack that made this track lose importance, along with the fact that none of the neighbors saw or heard anything. Therefore, it is thought that unleashing the murderer was something related to Franco Colleoni’s personal life. Meanwhile, images from all municipal cameras have been requisitioned to see if anyone has frequently wandered around the “Carroccio” area. As noted by the Prosecutor’s Office, all the leads remain open.
