Florence, fire in the center. Dense column of smoke

Vehicles on fire in downtown Florence. The fire broke out this afternoon, Saturday, September 26, in Piazza Davanzati in Florence, near the Palazzo Strozzi. The fire, according to firefighters, who intervened at the scene, involved some scooters and cars.

There is no definitive information on the damage to adjacent buildings, including the Palazzo dello Strozzino, which is home to the Odeon cinema. Once the fire, which involved a dozen mopeds, has been extinguished, the building’s facade is blackened, but without serious structural damage.

In the center one stood dense column of black smoke, visible even from a distance. A small crowd of onlookers gathered at the scene.

It is considered a malicious act. “The fire this afternoon near the Yab is a done very serious. The police are already investigating and obviously as a Municipality we will guarantee the maximum collaboration, fromuse of camera images. As soon as there is news we will inform you ”, says Mayor Dario Nardella.

The police also intervened on the spot.
