Flood. The water reaches the center of Nonantola, a town on its knees

Unfortunately, in the afternoon, the water flooded by the Panaro reached the town of Nonantola, “entering” in a southeast direction, just along the provincial highway. The water has spilled into the courtyards of homes and businesses, flooding the premises and already causing much damage. Impossible to stop their advance: the authorities have invited people to free the lower floors of the houses and move to the upper floors, as well as not to pour into the streets on foot or by car. Currently the level is low, but reaches half a meter in some areas of the country.

The water flow proceeds in the direction of the village of Casette and the areas further west should not be reached. But the situation is evolving rapidly and the persistence of bad weather conditions does not allow us to make certain forecasts.

Firefighters, Civil Protection and law enforcement agencies work tirelessly to provide relief to the population. Some firefighting teams are traveling the streets of the town aboard rubber boats to evacuate people who are in risk areas. The Covid emergency further complicates the situation, particularly with regard to home health interventions

Meanwhile, work is underway to stop the leak of water from the Panaro in correspondence with the leak that has opened in the embankment. Construction vehicles work incessantly on the embankments to deposit stones, which have been brought to the area with some trucks.

Collapse of the Panaro embankment, excavators in operation. Hundred firefighters lined up
