MEDIUM TERM CLIMATE TREND JANUARY 4-10: According to the latest numbers, below-average geopotentials and pressures are confirmed in western-central Europe, including Italy, until after Epiphany, at the same time as above-average geopotentials in Russia, Scandinavia, and Iceland. Therefore, we wait at this stage still often unstable or disturbed climate in most of Europe and also in Italy, with even above average rainfall, particularly in the north and along the Tyrrhenian side. However, the climate is not particularly cold in Centrosud, due to the frequent call of the currents from the south; colder in the north, no freezing, with possible snowfall at low altitudes, if not sometimes on the northwestern plains. Lots of snow in the Alps, where the season is exceptional.

LONG TERM CLIMATE TREND JANUARY 11-17: the baric scenario begins to show evident changes in the general layout, with geopotentials this time below the average in Central-North Europe and partly in Italy. In this phase, new cold eddies could descend over Scandinavia and partially over Central Europe, interacting with a disturbed flow from the “lower” Atlantic. In Italy we still expect an often unstable or disturbed climate, with a colder climate especially in the North, but without particular excesses. More snow in the mountains and sometimes at low altitudes in Centronord. In fact, there are no significant cold spells, at least in the medium term.

LONG TERM CLIMATE TREND JANUARY 18-24: While geopotentials remain below the average in northern Europe, on the other hand, they would increase in the Mediterranean and Italy, even exceeding the average. In this phase, the climate could be more stable and anticyclonic in Italy, especially in central and southern Italy.. Instead, sometimes boring in the north and on the middle side of the Tyrrhenian. Temperatures generally rise, above average in Centrosud. This is a trend line that will need a lot of confirmation, follow all the updates.
