A wick in the middle of the vegetation in front of the Robinson Park in Altofonte. After a hellish night, it’s time to count the damage from the fire that ravaged the mountains of the small town of Palermo. Just a week ago, Mayor Angela De Luca posted an image showing a wick, found by one of the organizers of the Altofonte-Rebuttone Auto Slalom race.
“Do you know what this is? A wick. This morning one of the organizers of the car slalom, underway in our country, noticed it in the middle of the vegetation on the hill in front of Robinson Park. Inspector Di Matteo of the municipal police alerted punctually: Present at the site, the volunteers of our civil protection were contacted to carry out a check-up of the place in the afternoon ”.
“If the fuse had been lit, it would surely have caused damage to nearby homes and also to the participants in the demonstration. I invite all citizens to pay attention to the territory and denounce any attitude that may harm public and private security. Destroy nature , setting fire to forests or spontaneous vegetation is a crime that must be prosecuted and punished severely ”.
A shot that appears today as a tragic omen. In the last hours in Altofonte, 200 hectares of wood have disappeared, due to a fire in the Moarda forest, in five different points at the same time. The flames were fanned by the sirocco wind and the area was hell. Since this morning the fire is under control with the canadair and the forest helicopters flying over the area with the task of completely extinguishing the flames.
