It’s a bloody New Year in Reggio Calabria. Around 4.40 pm, a 41 year old man, of Moroccan nationality, was run over and killed by a car in the via Reggio Campi, a few steps from the old women’s technical institute.

The car, a black Renault Clio, continued towards the side of the mountain, in the direction of the Church of San Paolo alla Rotonda. The man, according to an initial reconstruction, was on foot and was run over near a curve in a veterinary office. The body of the victim was dragged about ten meters and ended its run against a sidewalk and a post.

For man there was nothing to do, died instantly. The driver of the Renault Clio, who stopped to help, immediately appeared in shock.

The patrols of the Municipal Police of Reggio Calabria arrived at the place, under the orders of Commander Salvatore Zucco. Agents are currently carrying out the findings of the case, to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the accident.

Via Reggio Campi is currently closed to traffic to allow researchers to conduct surveys. The investigation revealed that the driver of the Renault Clio was a minor. The 17-year-old was questioned by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Juvenile Court and admitted his responsibilities in relation to the accident. The car was subject to judicial seizure, while the victim’s body was transported to the Gom morgue for an autopsy examination.

A few minutes after the accident, the relatives of the murdered young man arrived. Heartbreaking scenes from the death of a man who had recently opened a hairdresser near Sant’Agostino.

Reggio’s New Year, therefore, is stained with blood with the first deaths in a car accident.
