The counterfeit wine bottles falsely reproduced the original holograms and distinctive signs and were sold internationally.During investigations, carried out for more than a year by the soldiers of the Empoli Company, at the end of September they were seized in the province of Milan about 80 thousand pieces. counterfeit labels, bottles, stoppers, wooden crates that can be used to pack around 1,100 boxes of “Sassicaia 2015” wine, for a total of 6,600 bottles, whose market value, if the product had been original, would have been close to the 2 million euros. The punctuality of the intervention made it possible, among other things, to intercept the delivery of an order of 41 boxes of “Sassicaia 2015” already packed and ready to be sold.
From what emerged, the production and sale of the parallel illicit market amounted to about 700 cases of counterfeit wine per month, for a total of 4,200 bottles, with an estimated illicit income of around 400 thousand euros. Among whom, in particular, Koreans, Chinese and Russians had already placed orders for a thousand boxes while a small part would have been destined for the national territory, in the warehouse used for the illicit activity – as has been verified by the GDO military – The two detainees were in charge of the bottling, labeling and tissue paper of the bottles as well as the subsequent assembly of the suitcase. In total, 11 people are investigated who, for various reasons and in various ways, are believed to have participated in the production and marketing of fake wine.
