Fabio Aru has withdrawn from the 2020 Tour de France. The Sardinian broke away from the compact group during the first sections of the ninth stage, then he traveled alone for about fifty kilometers, losing about ten minutes and then decided to stop permanently. The Cavaliere dei Quattro Mori was not visibly fit and today he fully revealed his difficulties: in 2017 he won a stage at the Grande Boucle and wore the yellow jersey, then three dark years until today’s collapse.

The 30-year-old is one of the highest paid brokers in the world (more than three million euros), he is now at the end of his contract with UAE Emirates and a renewal seems unlikely. Giuseppe Saronni, an adviser to the Emirati training, analyzed the situation in Rai 2 hard: “Aru disappointed us. You have problems, including psychological ones. He does not react to the first difficulties: he falls, he does not have that character. We need to assess who has decided to take him to the Tour de France“.

The winner of two Tours of Italy, as well as the 1982 World Champion at Goodwood, sunk the blow further: “Pogacar was also hurt by the fact that Aru wanted to be on the Tour at all costs“. The Slovenian is in full battle for the podium and yesterday he put on a great show on the mountain, attacking and winning 40” over all the other big names.
