With just over a day before the extraordinary competition for 32,000 places in high school, requests for postponement overlap. Among them, the urgent motion approved by the Regional Council of Lombardy, at the proposal of the League, which commits the Executive to take measures to request the Ministry of Education and the Government to postpone the written tests scheduled from October 22 to November 16 : Among the votes in favor (57 with a single abstention) are also the regional councilors of the 5 Star Movement.
To protect the many participants
Together with the center-right, the Democratic Party and the regional councilor for Education Melania Rizzoli, they were asked to avoid subjecting candidates to tests, “to protect (…) the thousands of precarious participants, the school personnel and all the people in any case it participates in the competition tests “.
The request to hire temporary workers also passes
The second point of the motion has also been approved by a majority, which simultaneously with the postponement of the contest requires a “process of stabilization of temporary workers and specialized workers in support so that the school system has the guarantee of filling the vacancies.” In this case, regarding the preferential hiring of temporary workers, the M5S has followed national policy, which it does not ignore, for the purposes of permanent hiring, public or reserved competitions, in any case with the performance of tests that measure merit.
Pittoni: Azzolina takes note and for rehearsals
The request for postponement of the tests by the entire Lombard council did not escape Senator Mario Pittoni, director of the Lega School and vice president of the Culture Commission: “Azzolina takes note of today’s news unanimously in the Lombardy region and stop the extraordinary competition! “.
“Not even his party has felt willing to support a procedure that is anything but urgent for teachers, which in the midst of a health emergency starting Thursday should move 66,000 candidates across the country, even for hundreds of kilometers. Among other things, the Northern League concludes. almost all of them already teach and therefore, once they return, they would find themselves in contact with dozens (in some cases hundreds) of students ”.
Pd: “a risk that it would be better not to take”
During the eve of the first round of the extraordinary high school contest, also the Democratic party went on the attack to ask for a postponement.
On a joint note, the leader of the Pd in Palazzo Madama Andrea Marcucci ed the vice president of the education commission Francesco Verducci, who had already posed an urgent question to the minister on the subject, reiterated that “the next school contest” implies “a risk that it would be better not to take.”
“A few days before the start, we believe it intolerable that Minister Azzolina has not planned and communicated a complementary test for teachers who are quarantined or positive. The Democratic Party officially asks the minister for this minimum guarantee ”, conclude the two democratic parliamentarians.
The precarious: subjected to “risky trips on public transport”
Among the various appeals addressed to the institutions there are also several precarious teachers. In a long post about the Facebook group ‘no extraordinary contest during Covid’, which has more than 3,500 participants, we read: “We ask that the contest be postponed to better times to stop the damage of what is in effect an epidemiological bomb that sooner or later someone will have to give an account to the families and students of who will return to class the next day for lessons. “
“There are thousands of teachers who will support the competitions outside the region – the post reads – who will have to make risky trips by public transport to reach the competition venues.” These “thousands of teachers will have to return the day after the competition to their classrooms as virulent and unconscious potential subjects.”
Who is isolated?
In addition, precarious teachers in quarantine, isolation or already positive results will not be able to participate “in the competition test” for which they are “.waiting more than 6 years, since there have been no competitions for 6 years “.
The risk is “that this competition will become Atalanta-Valencia in February 2020 is very high, and we are stunned by the ministry’s myopia, of the Government, of the Regions in this sense and puzzled by the approximation and superficiality of such management ”, conclude the precarious workers.
Why take a real risk?
Among those who oppose the tests are also trade unionists from Anief, the union where the current Minister of Education Lucía Azzolina worked for some years.
According to the leader Marcello Pacifico, “the risks of incurring Covid cannot be avoided by the school administration and by those who have decided that this competition should be done now. Because the prerequisites to suspend the tests and foresee the later dates for the completion of the papers are there: the more than predictable would suffice high number of teachers who cannot participate, for being in fiduciary isolation or incapacitated for health reasons, who still must be granted a second chance ”.
“Also, considering the exceptional nature of the situation and the objective possibility of becoming positive on Covid19, we certainly cannot force those who have not been caught today by Covid to expose themselves to a real risk, it is good that the administration changes the date of the tests at the national level ”.
