“What happened last night is proven proof that the structure is inadequate, both because of the location within the inhabited center and for the accommodation capacity. We are all saddened by the accident and the death of the young Eritrean, as well as by the wounded policemen. The population, now more than ever, is alarmed ”. This was stated by the mayor of Siculiana, Leonardo Lauricella, about the death in a traffic accident of the migrant who escaped from the center and the wounds of three policemen who were pursuing him. “The structure is inadequate,” he added, “and we have been saying this for a long time, both because it is in the town, because it faces State Highway 115 and this facilitates the prospects of escape for migrants. It is also unsuitable for the number of migrants it hosts, far exceeding the authorized accommodation capacity. And in a moment of health emergency – explained the mayor of Siculiana – this breach of receptive capacity determines a danger to the health of my community and also to themselves.
