Elections 2020, in the area of ​​Bergamo that has the League: the management of Covid and the scandal over the funds do not affect the party. Clusone the only exception

On the one hand were the municipalities linked to covid-19 outbreak, in that area of Bassa Valseriana became infamous around the world as the epicenter of the spread of the disease. On the other hand, the municipalities that, despite themselves, have known the leading role for legal matters involving the League. The Bergamo returned to voting and in this first partial electoral stretch the Carroccio held out very well. In spite of the lame management the emergence of the regional government with traction from the Northern League; despite the legal problems affecting its president, Attilio fontana; and despite, finally, the arrests of the three accountants close to Matteo Salvini’s party whose lives – and whose businesses – run along the route that connects the capital with Valseriana.

Let’s start from here. Alberto Di Rubba, who ended up under arrest for the Lombardy Film Commission case and portrayed in a photo published by Report – taken in a well-known Milanese club – with head resting on Salvini’s shoulder, and of Gazzaniga. In the town of just over 5,000 inhabitants the Lega obtained 86.35% of the votes, reconfirming the outgoing mayor Mattia Merelli. It is a sign that of the 49 million euros of Italian taxpayers that have disappeared from the Carroccio coffers and of the legal developments arising after the sale of the property in Cormano, voters have little or no interest. “No one locally sent me a text message or made a phone call to express concern or ask me what was happening ”, comments the former provincial secretary of the League, now a deputy, Daniele belotti, “It means that people have understood that this is mechanical justice.” It should be added, beyond the interpretations, that here the center-right supreme queen since the early nineties; that the Democratic Party does not have a club and that in the elections there was no list that could even come close to a center-left idea (Merelli’s competitors were, in fact, the “cousins” of Brothers from Italy).

South of Gazzaniga there is Prices. Here, on May 8, 1990, the League chose your first mayor, Franco Bortolotti. This time, however, in addition to the symbolic value of the vote for the Carroccio, there was a more emotional reason to consider this election different from the others: on March 13, the mayor, Giorgio Valoti, died of Covid. In the first days of that month, when the institutions were thinking about a possible red zone in Valseriana and the newspapers had the names of Alzano Lombardo me NembroIn fact, there were two other municipalities for the attention of the Technical-Scientific Committee. That of Serio Village It’s of Prices. Here too, therefore, restrictions that could have limited infections have increased. Neither the government nor the Lombardy Region, as it has been rebuilt, has been tasked with surrounding an area dotted with small and large companies and warehouses. Here, in the end, the stronghold of the Northern League held out: edilio moreni won by a handful of votes (50.57%) against the challenger Anna Gusmini (49.43%).

Where the League has reconfirmed, and was not taken for granted, is an announcement At least. The city council was dissolved after friction between the then mayor Massimo Bandera, later expired, two councilors and some majority councilors. Bandera, now, returns to cover the position of mayor with 67.03%. too Sorisole remains in the hands of the Northern League, with Stefano vivi (53.55%) who reached his second term while the rest of the votes were distributed between two civic lists (Sorisole Insieme and Commitment Municipality). The surprise, however, came from the Valseriana. TO Clusone the civic list (with 5-star related items and a strong Democratic Party component) led by Massimo Morstabilini – with a past, it must be said, close to the Northern League – he beat united center. The new mayor has almost doubled the challenger supported by Lega, Forza Italia and Fratelli d’Italia, raising 64.83% and to interrupt an administration of Carroccio that had lasted ten years. Clusone was significantly affected by Covid, with 90 deaths from the beginning of March to the end of April. There were 37 deaths only in the month of March (the previous year there were 5) in a Residence for the elderly, the Sant’Andrea Foundation. And it is always in Clusone, jumping to the most recent legal facts, where part of the business of the aforementioned Alberto Di Rubba and the partner passes through, who also ended up under house arrest.
