Earthquake in Naples, two other shocks in the Campi Flegrei at night, also felt in Pozzuoli

There are still earthquakes in the Flegrean area. It was a night of concern for the many residents in the Campi Flegrei area, a vast area that includes some districts in the western part of Naples (Agnano, Fuorigrotta, Bagnoli but also Soccavo and Pianura) and populous centers like Pozzuoli. The phenomenon would be framed in bradyseism, like the other tremors recorded in recent days.

After a first earthquake last night, the sensors of the Vesuvian Observatory registered new earthquakes felt by the population starting at 4:13. The most energetic, 2.3 km in magnitude and 1.7 km deep, had its epicenter in the Campi Flegrei area (north of the city of Naples) at a depth of about 2.23 km in the area comprised between the Solfatara and the Accademia.

At 4:20 a.m., another earthquake, with a magnitude of 1.7 and a depth of 1.7 km, was instead located in the area between Solfatara and Via Napoli. Many of those who, worried about last night’s scare, stayed awake and also noticed the second, or woke up with a start.

However, no injuries or damage were recorded: the area is subject to bradyseism, so it is subject to numerous seismic events of this type, many of which are not even noticed by the population. A third earthquake occurred tonight, a few minutes after the second, at 4:20 a.m., with a magnitude of 1.7 and a depth of two kilometers. Previously, yesterday, December 19, two other tremors in addition to the one in the afternoon: both of magnitude 1, had occurred at 4:21 p.m. and 6:10 p.m., the first at a depth of 2 kilometers and the second at 1 km; although very superficial, they had not been noticed.
