(ANSA) – WASHINGTON, OCTOBER 23 – A Dutch security expert managed to enter Donald Trump’s Twitter account by guessing the password: maga2020 !, the acronym for the election slogan Make America Great again. Victor Gevers, 44, was successful on his fifth attempt, as he told the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant. “I was hoping that after the fourth they would block me or at least ask me for more information,” he explained, suggesting that the president of the United States did not even use minimal security measures such as double authentication.
Thus he had access to the account of the most powerful person in the world, with 87 million followers: he could have tweeted, changed his profile, which sent him a bit of panic, according to his account. The most paradoxical aspect, however, are the difficulties he had in reporting the vulnerability: he tried to warn the Trump campaign, his family, sent messages through Twitter, tagged the CIA, the FBI, the White House , but no response, according to the newspaper.
The next day, however, Gevers noticed that double authentication had been activated and two days later he was contacted by the Secret Service, who would have thanked him. However, it was not the first time that the ethical hacker, as social networks have renamed him, entered Trump’s Twitter account: he had already succeeded in 2016, guessing another equally predictable password: ‘youarefired’ (you are fired) , the catchphrase of The Apprentice, the reality show hosted by Trump.
