Libra’s criminal career
At first, Libra was nicknamed the prostitute killer. The first crime dates back to March 9, 1998, when in Varazze he shot Estela Truya, an Albanian prostitute with whom he had secluded himself. On March 24 in Novi Ligure, in Piedmont, he took his car with the transsexual Lorraine, who sensed his murderous intentions and managed to escape. Then with a coup de grace to the head, he finished off the two night watchmen, Massimiliano Gualillo and Candido Randò. On March 29 in Cogoleto he murdered another prostitute, the Nigerian Tessy adodo.
When the investigations begin to collect elements, thanks also to Lorena’s testimony, Libra suddenly changes the way they act and the type of victims of their murders: since then start attacking on trains, with absolute randomness.
On April 12, at the Intercity La Spezia-Venice, he broke into the bathroom door of the car and fired Elisabetta Zoppetti, kill her. On April 14 he again killed a prostitute, Kristina Valla.
On April 18 he attacked a train again, on the Genoa-Ventimiglia route, killing Maria Angela Rubino and masturbating on his corpse.
The last of Libra’s crimes took place on April 20 in the Conioli Sud service area on the Genoa-Ventimiglia highway, in the municipality of Arma di Taggia: the serious killer robbed and killed the gas station employee Giuseppe Mileto because she had refused to give him credit for a full tank of gasoline.
The Mercedes that betrayed him
Betraying him was an almost innocent vice considering the character’s criminal caliber: it is avoiding paying the toll on the highway. The black Mercedes was denounced on several occasions and the police discovered a correspondence between the identikit of the occupant and that made by Lorena. Added to this was DNA evidence: the serial killer, one of the most ruthless in Italy’s criminal history, was arrested on May 6, 1998.
Libra, the serial killer never regretted
After some days confessed all the murders. but it didn’t show never regretful. In prison he began a path that led him to achieve a diploma and start studying to graduate. A behavior that made him even get a permission to leave in 2017 or after 20 years in detention: he was superhunted to the grave of his parents in Nizza Monferrato (Asti). Instead, he was denied further permission because he was considered a “ still dangerous ” subject: he had asked the Padua Supervisory Court to visit a child Eight-year-old boy with Down syndrome, to whom he had decided to donate part of his pension. But the magistrates denied the possibility considering that he had never repented of his crimes, believing that he had been “possessed” by a disease in the years in which he had committed them.
