Frail elderly, nurses, and doctors. They will be the first to receive the doses of the Covid vaccine that should be available at the end of January. Even if the administration is expected to start from December. Gianni Rezza, director general of Prevention of the Ministry of Health, confirms that he is already working on the implementation of the vaccination plan from the point of view of public health: assigning priorities, identifying vaccination targets, sites, to whom and where vaccinate. The numbers are simple: the population over 70 in Italy exceeds 11 million citizens, so they will be the ones to absorb almost all the doses in 2021. The younger population will probably have to wait longer.
For mass administration, clinics and vaccination centers will obviously enter the scene. In the first row also the family doctors who will implement the same operation planned for vaccination against influenza. For now, administration in pharmacies is not contemplated due to the risks associated with side effects: vaccination is a medical procedure that requires safety procedures that cannot be guaranteed in pharmacies.
Arcuri for the part that belongs to him yesterday urged local authorities to identify sites for the storage of vaccines in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies.
