Statement from the Ministry of Education – The Minister of Education Lucía Azzolina signed today the decree that assigns to schools the 85 million euros for integrated digital education allocated by the ‘Refreshments Decree’ in the Council of Ministers on October 27.
Funds will be used by schools to purchase digital devices and tools to provide loaner connections for use by female students and disadvantaged students.
The 85 million were distributed taking into account the number of students in each school and the ESCS indicator of the OECD that allows identifying schools with a context of greater socioeconomic distress and where digital equipment is less widespread. The same parameter was used in March for the distribution of resources for digital teaching foreseen by the ‘Cura Italia’ decree. This new allocation will allow schools to purchase more than 200,000 new devices and more than 100,000 connections based on the needs of the schools.
The other investments
In recent months, the Ministry of Education has not stopped investing in digital at school, capitalizing on the efforts made during the suspension of teaching activities in attendance and trying to transform the crisis into an opportunity, with interventions that will continue to be provided to schools and also through staff training.
In particular, thanks to the loans granted since March, 432,330 devices have already been purchased and more than 100,000 connections have already been made. More tools will be made available through specific notices on the PON resources that will allow the rental of digital teaching aids for this course and also thanks to a decree of 3.6 million, signed on October 27 by the Ministry of Education , which will guarantee the connection and, therefore, integrated digital education, to secondary school students who still lack it. Finally, it should be remembered that schools have bought devices and technologies even with the 331 million euros paid directly to the Institutes for the restart in September. Schools also have 1.2 million devices in their labs that were already made available to students during the first phase of the health emergency.
