Today, Sunday, December 27, in Italy on vaccines for Covid, with the arrival of the first 9,750 doses of vaccine made by Pfizer BioNTech (so theAIFA announced the leaflet with all contraindications and administration instructions).
The doses of vaccine that initially arrived in Italy are 9,750 with the precedence that in this first phase will be given to Health workers and ai elderly in nursing homes. And there is no lack of controversy: for example, by the fact that the governor of the Campania region, Vincenzo De Luca, was among the first to be vaccinated (therefore, without respecting the order of priorities dictated by the central government), but also because Italy is among the European countries that have received fewer doses of the vaccine.
Regarding this last aspect, it gives us some information Republic which compared the doses of the vaccine received today in Italy with those of other European countries.
It should be noted that what is taken into account is only the first download and that in the coming days the doses of vaccine available for Italy will grow, also because the distribution – at least in theory – will take into account the number of citizens, but what makes us think is that on V-Day ours was the country with the least doses received.
Italy: 9,750 doses of vaccine delivered, why so few?
As anticipated, the doses of the vaccine for Covid-19 manufactured by Pfizer and BioNTech they weren’t the same for everyone. It makes us think that at this moment Italy is one of the countries with the lowest number of doses available, despite being in fact among the most affected in the world by deaths (in proportion to the population).
In detail, the doses that arrived today are 9,750: This is a very small number, especially if you look at the rest of Europe (as we will see better below). It must be said, however, that the Ministry of Health has specified that the effective distribution in Italy will only take place from tomorrow, Monday December 28 and will lead to the delivery of approx. 470 thousand weekly doses.
The one that just arrived, therefore, should have been only a first preliminary download: more important numbers will already be available starting next week. And we hope so, since today Italy has even less dose than Malta.
Vaccine in Europe: distribution in other countries
It must be said that, as announced by the German Health Minister, Jens Spahn, also next week on The confrontation with Germany turns everything in favor of the Germans. It is true that Italy has about 60 million inhabitants while Germany has 88 million, but the difference in doses seems even more marked.
Already on December 26, Germany received a 151,125 total doses; Tomorrow others will arrive and for the first week of January others will be added to the first escape 1.9 million doses.
This difference lies in the fact that the principle according to which the 300 million doses requested by the European Union will be distributed in proportion to the population will be applied at a general level. It could happen, as indeed it appears to be happening, so that some countries at an early stage receive more vaccines than others.
But let’s see, in addition to Italy and Germany, how many doses of the vaccine have been delivered to the rest of Europe according to data provided by Reuters.
- France: 19,500 doses delivered on December 26;
- Spain: on December 26 the delivery of 350 thousand weekly doses began;
- Portugal: 80,000 doses planned for the end of the year;
- Romania, Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Norway and Sweden: about 10 thousand doses were delivered on December 26;
- Denmark: first load of 40 thousand doses;
- malt: 10 thousand doses of vaccine received on December 26, little more than what was delivered in Italy;
- Switzerland (which we remember is not part of the EU): the vaccination campaign started with 107,000 doses available.
