Approximately three years after the opening of the investigation file, the Neapolitan investigation against the president of the Campania region Vincenzo De Luca, under investigation for forgery and fraud in connection with the transfer of his staff in Palazzo Santa, seems to begin to close with a request for dismissal. Lucia, and precisely in the secretariat, of four employees of the Municipality of Salerno (among them some traffic police) who made him drivers when he was mayor. Sources within the Naples Prosecutor’s Office, confirming the news reported yesterday by Republic, suggest that there is currently no certainty that the office wants to press for the investigation to have a procedural result.
The investigation against De Luca is inspired by the denunciations of the opposition of center-right in the regional council after an episode that occurred in September 2017, when the car that accompanied the governor home was involved in a minor traffic accident in Salerno. Nothing serious, but on that occasion it turned out that the driver was a former Salerno policeman who the governor had joined his secretariat. Like him there are three others, and all of them would have obtained a transfer endowment of 4,600 euros gross per year. In recent months, the magistrates conducting the investigation have summoned De Luca to the prosecution and have listened to him. On that occasion, the President of the Region would also have provided some documents that, in his view, would demonstrate the transparency of the procedures adopted for the transfer to the Region of the personnel employed by the Salerno City Council. De Luca’s defender, lawyer Andrea Castaldo, talks about a reorganization that has allowed cost savings compared to the previous administration, and adds that we cannot talk about promoted police officers. Rather, the lawyer insists, since there is no procedural novelty, it would be convenient to avoid any exploitation in consideration of the electoral season that is approaching.
Very different, however, are the tones used by the Governor of Campania to comment on the news through a post published on your Facebook profile. We learn – writes De Luca – from the timely discovery that for three years an investigation has been opened on the organization of the secretariat office of the President of the Campania Region. The investigation, due, was based on a complaint from a former regional councilor (former Forza Italia, now a member of the League) who, while he was councilor, received assignments for hundreds of thousands of euros from the regional transport company EAV. The reference to the Salvino candidate to the regional council Severino Nappi, who signed the complaint from which the investigation began. A survey that De Luca ironically defines as three years and that, he explains, focuses on this question: were the drivers who take turns accompanying the President of the Region just drivers or did they also perform secretarial work? Meanwhile, it is announced that the organization of the secretariat of the current presidency, compared to the previous one (which was headed by Stefano Caldoro, today again a center-right candidate in opposition to De Luca, ed), meant a saving of 84,000 euros per year. Then the actual closing: Otherwise, don’t waste time and don’t get distracted.
