The Day against violence against women was born in 1999 when the UN assembly decided to remember the terrible sacrifice of sisters Patria, Minerva and Maria Teresa Mirabal, brutally assassinated by agents of the dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo in the Dominican Republic

This important day is celebrated all over the world, but why and where does this date dedicated to the defense of women originate?

The Mirabal sisters: story of a murder

We are in 1960, 60 years ago, it is precisely on November 25 of that year the three girls were victims of a murder perpetrated by the men of the dictator of Santo Domingo, Rafael Leonidas Trujillo.

These days in the squares throughout ItalyWe will find some abandoned red shoes, a symbol to remember an important social drama.

The hydra was turned into a symbol in 2012 by the Mexican artist Elina Chauvet with the work Red Shoes. The work was first seen in front of the Mexican consulate in El Paso, Texas, an artistic but concrete way of remembering the thousands of women murdered in the Mexican city of Juárez.
