The two were part of a larger group that had positioned themselves on a side street of Via Santa Lucía ready to target – according to the investigators’ reconstruction – an ambush on the police.

When Digos officers arrived, the group dispersed and the two ended up handcuffed, armed with broken glass bottles, and then placed under house arrest. They have to answer for resistance to public officials, violence and threats.

The two were directly tried and convicted. For one of the two, the sentence was one year and 8 months; for the second, one year and two months with a suspended sentence.

THE VIMINAL
«What happened last night in Naples is very serious. The aggression against the police and the urban warfare unleashed in the streets of the city near the region are criminal acts. And so they will be treated. It is quite clear that this was not a spontaneous protest. But with pre-established actions, organized almost entirely by bands of violent fanatics, by criminal circles, also linked to sectors of political extremism. Thus, the Deputy Minister of the Interior in charge of Public Security, Matteo Mauri, on the attack on the police force carried out last night in Naples. “These are criminals who will answer for what they did,” adds Mauri. “All the more so because they try to speculate about the difficult situation we are experiencing, both from the point of view of health and the consequences in the lives of citizens. The State’s response will be adequate and proportionate to the seriousness of the events that occurred. Those responsible for these shameful acts will be quickly identified. To all the agents involved, to the Naples Police Headquarters, I send my full solidarity. Thanking – concludes the Vice Minister of the Interior – once again for the dedication, promptness and professionalism with which they knew how to manage the situation.
