Covid vaccines, “up to three billion doses by next spring.” Production started before we know if it works

The virus runs and spreads, but scientists do not stand still. And trial after trial is approaching the development of a possible vaccine. The candidates are diverse and that is why the executive vice president of Oncological Research and Development of the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, Josep Baselga, assumes an advanced distribution, up to three billion doses, for next spring. Non-administrative distribution whose times for such impressive numbers will inevitably be long.

“We start producing millions and millions of doses of vaccines before we know if it works because we don’t want to wait six months. At the beginning of the year we will already have three billion doses ”, explained the Catalan doctor in an interview on radio Rac1. Baselga also specified that the vaccine will be sold to cost price, about two euros and that two doses will be required 28 days apart.

“Progress in the availability of a Covi 19 vaccine is approaching. Despite the few months of research, some laboratories are in a very advanced stage and the first doses could arrive very soon ”, explains Baselga, recalling that 175 different vaccines are being developed around the world. Of these, 35 are in clinical trials with e ten are in the final stages including Oxoford / Irbm. Baselga explained that the pharmaceutical company has been dedicated to the distribution of vaccines around the world and not just in the United States or Europe. “We will never return to normal to what we had until now, but in the summer we can have a relatively normal life – says the doctor – We will have a horrible winter They are going through a very hard month, but at the beginning of the year the situation will begin to change and we can move on. According to Baselga, mass rapid tests will also be very important to restore normality because they can be tested before boarding a plane, entering a concert, a party, a theater.

we need you.

In these weeks of pandemic, journalists, if we do our work conscientiously, we carry out a public service. Also for this reason, every day here at ilfattoquotidiano.it we are proud to offer hundreds of new content for free to all citizens: news, exclusive insights, expert interviews, surveys, videos and much more. All this work, however, comes at great financial cost. Advertising, at a time when the economy is stagnant, offers limited revenue. Not in line with the access boom. That is why I ask those who read these lines to support us. Give us a minimum contribution, equal to the price of a cappuccino per week, which is essential for our work.
