Last Friday night, an employee who works in the laboratories of the Edmund Mach Foundation (Fem) engaged since March in activities to support the analysis of swabs felt bad. Placed in isolation, it was quickly swabbed, then tested positive. All of the colleagues swabbed in the Apss lab tested negative except for one, a joint from the infected employee.

This was reported in a note from the Fem, in which it is specified that the laboratories operate in a completely safe regime, scrupulously following the rules imposed by the provincial health services agency of Trento and the international regulations issued by the Organization World Health.

During the last few months, Fem has analyzed around 75,000 swabs; Since July, around 1,000 swabs per day, collected by the Microbiology and Virology Laboratory of the Santa Chiara Hospital in Trento, have been analyzed. The activity involves more than 40 researchers.

On a note the Foundation specifies: Precisely the fact that the entire group of workers who came into contact with the couple is in fact negative for the infection is proof of the effectiveness of the anti-Covid 19 protocols adopted by the EMF. APSS CEO Pier Paolo Benetollo also spoke out about the case, stating that the infection could not have occurred in the workplace.

Meanwhile, the Edmund Mach Foundation’s commitment has continued for months, tirelessly, in support of Trentino’s health, with more than 75,000 swabs tested in total, by July around 1000 per day collected by the Laboratory of Microbiology and Virology of the Hospital S. Chiara in Trento in the battle against the spread of the virus SARS-cov2-2019.

An activity that involves more than 40 researchers, technologists and technicians from the Mach Foundation with sophisticated machinery and technologies already present within the FEM. The results are transmitted electronically to the S. Chiara Laboratory in Trento, where they are validated.

“They were not infected in the laboratory” – Dr. Antonio Ferro, from the Public Health Department of the Sanitary Company, spoke about the case today at a press conference: «We have started a rigorous epidemiological investigation, as is fair, and the laboratories will be sanitized. However, it must be said that the two infected people are related, and that the infection that we have established comes from activities outside the laboratory, and therefore from the social life of the family unit ”.

The Fem laboratory, which was closed today, will gradually resume its activity, also because 8 other operators who work there did not test positive on the swab made.
