Florence, October 16, 2020 – Maximum suitability of hospital admissions for Covid Pathology, homogeneous behaviors in the management of the use of beds as well as in the care and assistance to patients through well-defined criteria and operational solutions, reduction of hospital attendance. These are the cornerstones of the new order signed today, October 16, by the president of the Tuscany, Eugenio Giani, for the best possible use of hospitals in the face of a constant demand for hospitalizations due to the current trend of the epidemiological curve of Covid-19. Appropriateness and prevention, therefore, are the guiding principles of the new ordinance on the need for uniform and consistent standards for each healthcare company.

Among the operational measures that the Health Authorities must guarantee in a homogeneous way, in particular, the reduction of hospital attendance: Access roads to Covid areas and dedicated services and emergency rooms should be separated, as well as – says the ordinance – outpatient services, also guaranteeing the use of waiting rooms that allow maintaining safety distances .

Specifically, access to hospital facilities should be cut off for all visitors, caregivers, outpatients, and healthcare workers with flu-like symptoms (rhinitis, cough, fever, shortness of breath). Access for caregivers and visitors, both hospitalized patients and ambulatory and emergency users, should be limited, avoiding crowds. In this sense, the ordinance gives very specific indications, inviting “to allow access in a number that does not exceed one visitor or companion for each patient. Visits to hospitalized patients must be divided into time, with a maximum duration of ten minutes of presence and, preferably, every other day ”.

Furthermore, the number of intensive beds, sub-intensive and non-intensive, made available by the Health Authorities, coordinated and synergistic activity between the companies, as already happened during the first phase and with the necessary modulation, which takes into account the current scenarios and the regional indications of the need to guarantee as much ordinary services as possible.

“With this ordinance we adopt a strict line to protect hospitals and especially the health of patients and the health workers themselves, committed to the front line in the fight against Covid – says President Giani -. How for rsa and all other residential social and health structures, we have reactivated and prepared a series of operational solutions, already proven during the first epidemic phase and refined during construction. Health is the most precious asset we have, we cannot leave anything to chance, nor underestimate the risks we run without an adequate deployment of forces in the field and the use of proven tools, which have allowed us to overcome the most difficult moments. . We will evaluate day by day what to do, always in an adequate and proportionate way to the real needs of the moment, and above all always in line with ministerial instructions ”.

“Meanwhile in Tuscany – Giani adds – we are committed to increasing the number of processed tampons, which we will shortly bring to 17,500 per day, and to protecting the health of our citizens in all areas of their lives, at school and at work, always recommending anti-aging measures. -Covid, from avoiding meetings also in the means of transport “.

Then, on Facebook, Giani adds: “If the situation became more critical, we could also reach hospitals in the future to avoid visits: for now, let’s try to do that.”
