In the first wave, Rimini and Medicina were closed. Unfortunately, today in Modena we need drastic measures. They are necessary to save lives and prevent the collapse of the health system
However, faced with this tragedy, the city and the province seem to want to close their eyes. Or at least they don’t seem to want to admit the negative specificity of Modena even with respect to the Emilia Romagna region. Modena today is not Bologna, it is not Reggio, it is not Piacenza, it is not Rimini. It is something different and more worrying. However, there is still talk that the ski slopes will remain open, that Christmas will not be canceled, and that the libraries will be reopened. Everything beautiful. But the problem is that today the reality in Modena is not beautiful at all. And describing it as such does not change it. In fact, it makes it worse.
During the first wave, the Region, faced with the increase in cases in Rimini and Medicina, made drastic decisions, which were always defended even later by the then Covid Commissioner Sergio Venturi. Rimini and Medicine were closed and this avoided a ‘second Lombardy’ as Venturi himself said. Today there is no regional commissioner. There is a councilor, who last city council took care of the transport. In Modena, the mayor in the last interventions on his Facebook profile talks about the Mille Miglia and the Motor Valley. A third wave is evoked to avoid, as if the second has ended when the facts blatantly say it is not. Of course, the chorus with invitations to wear a mask never fails. But nothing more. In the ears still resounds that ‘Modena does not stop’, the tables under the stars, the idea that the word ‘curfew’ is not pretty and should not be shared, as the mayor himself said just a month ago (here the link ).
Modena does not stop, but this way the virus does not stop. And hospitals are collapsing. This is the truth. As bad as you like, but again, backing away is certainly not the right way to improve it. The vaccine is still a long way off despite the positive signs and Christmas with the reopening imposed by the economy, with the Region magically going from orange to yellow, is upon us. Unfortunately, in Modena we need drastic measures, in addition to the yellow zone. They are necessary to save lives and prevent the collapse of the health system.
Drastic measures compensated with real aid to companies (starting with a reduction in taxes, starting with the Tari, until now postponed by the board), to allow them to survive and then start over. The alternative is to delay the restart and increase the suffering and agony of these months.

For years Lapressa.it has offered free and independent information to its readers without any public contribution. Private advertising covers part of the costs, but it is not enough. That is why we ask those who read us every day, and follow us, to give us, if they believe, a contribution based on their possibilities. Even a little support, multiplied by the tens of thousands of Modenese and Emilia-Romagna who read to us every day, is essential.
