The Puglia region has issued a different ordinance in which the obligation to wear a mask is subject to a number of restrictions: in front of schools, if you are waiting, if there is no distancing, etc. In short, when Apulians leave home they have to take the paper with them to understand what situation they are in. It is normal that in a phase of world emergency like this there is some confusion. But politics and institutions have precisely this task: to make clear what citizens need to know. Especially if it is an ordinance that has, more or less, the power of a law and cannot resemble a crossword where you have to guess the solution.
Puglia has chosen a smooth line perhaps because, when studying the algorithm, it has seen that the so-called epidemiological curve is probably not alarming to the point of extending the generalized obligation. The problem is another: in a phase in which there are a hundred positives a day, hospitalizations increase, there are still victims, is it normal for the algorithm to decide? No. Politics has the duty of clarity, as we said, but above all the responsibility to decide.
The national government will probably be in charge, which next week will impose the obligation to wear a mask outdoors throughout the country because, curved or not, we return to the April infections and there are not many people around that I have it. Puglia will have to queue and it will not make a good impression on us. Unless the objective of President Emiliano is exactly that: to make others decide.
By the way: the mask, according to experts from all over the world, is as effective as the vaccine and serves to avoid another confinement.
